A Magnificent Grade II listed Victorian Rectory located in a peaceful village just one hour from Central London, this home is perfect for multi-generational families and groups celebrating special occasions. The house is in the centre of a beautiful village in a Conservation Area deemed an area of outstanding area of natural beauty. Surrounded by vineyards, fields and footpaths including St Peter’s Way, it is perfect for those who like to wander in the countryside. 

The Old Rectory is an impressive family residence occupying a commanding hilltop position with views of the neighbouring 14th century All Saints Church and over the picturesque village of Purleigh and the beautiful Essex countryside.

Built in 1886, the Old Rectory has been beautifully restored and refurbished to create a wonderful family home which retains enormous character and period charm. The elegant accommodation is arranged over two floors combining well-proportioned reception rooms with comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms over the ground and first floors.

The extensive tiered lawns to the rear and beautiful gardens are a great place to relax and for children to play. There is a children’s play area with swings and slide as well as an in-ground trampoline at the bottom of the garden. 

On the first floor there are 5 bedrooms. There is a master bedroom with superking bed and en-suite next to a further bedroom with a king sized bed. Across the landing there is a semi-en-suite nursery bedroom with a king sized bed and a cot (smaller crib available on request). There are a further two bedrooms, one with, a double bed and the other with a superking bed, with the option to be made up as two single beds.

There are two rooms that are unavailable for guest use as well as a few cupboards that are locked, other than that the main house is for our guests to enjoy. We live on site in a self contained apartment on the second floor with its own entrance and staircase.

There is plenty to keep guests entertained during a stay at The Old Rectory. Set in the beautiful village of Purleigh, you can enjoy peaceful countryside walks, explore the neighbouring historic church, visit nearby vineyards and wineries, or relax with a meal and drink at the local Purleigh Bell.

Historic Maldon is just a short drive away, with its famous Hythe Quay, traditional sailing barges, riverside walks, independent shops, pubs and restaurants. Don't miss the chance to sample local produce and the famous Maldon sea salt.

History lovers are spoilt for choice, with Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome, St Peter-on-the-Wall, Beeleigh Abbey and Maldon's museums all within easy reach. The surrounding countryside and Blackwater Estuary are also perfect for walking, wildlife and photography.

For wine lovers, there are numerous vineyards close to The Old Rectory, including New Hall Wine Estate, Danbury Ridge Wine Estate and several others around the Crouch Valley.

For a longer day out, guests can explore RHS Garden Hyde Hall, shopping at Bond Street Chelmsford, historic Colchester, Southend-on-Sea or Audley End House and Gardens.
